Toilet Construction
In our experience so far, in a village, one complete toilet unit construction takes approximately three to four days. It includes some ground digging work of specific dimension, mixing material i.e. sand, cement, preparing drums, putting loose boulders around drums to act as soakage pits for toilet, helping mason with construction work and above all to see and understand how it happens in rural area in a participatory and cost effective manner. Hence we have given three days for toilet unit construction and two days for all four groups separately for construction of garbage and soakage pits (for kitchen waste water).
We are expecting four groups of participants to construct four toilet units with local mason and our team members help in four different villages/locations for very needy and identified beneficiaries like single women, person with disability or very poor person in the community.
As per previous year’s feedback and experiences with different groups, we have included this physical/manual activity as it will provide participants a fulfilling experience to do something hands-on in the community and contribute.
